In the mid-1980s, Just-In-Time inventory systems brought a change to industrial buying patterns from long-running, lower priced products manufactured for stock to shorter-running, highly dynamic products manufactured in lower quantities and shipped to customers as their needs demanded. This change in philosophy helped enhance the need for CNC-type equipment that enable companies to quickly change from one product to another in a minimal amount of time.

Florida Metal Services' first step into CNC sheet metal fabrication manufacturing came in 1986 with its purchase of the 20-tool capacity, Wiedemann Centrum 1000Q turret punch press. Since this time, sheet metal fabrication manufacturing has grown to six machines in over 25,000 square feet of air conditioned space and has quickly overtaken metal stampings as the center of our business development and long-term planning as evident with our most recent acquisition of the Mitsubishi 3000 Watt stand-alone laser and Wiedemann 3046 hydraulic punch with auto load/unload/stacker.
